New and Events from HTR for the week beginning July 3rd

Readings at Mass today: 1st Reading: Is 66: 10-14. Psalm 66: 1-8. 2nd Reading: Galatians 6: 1-16. The Gospel: St Luke 10: 1-11, 16-20.

Every Wednesday Mass at 6:00PM and Friday Free Coffee served from 10:30AM with Mass at Noon.

In the Gospel set for today Jesus sends out an advance party to the places he planned to go himself. He told them to offer healing and peace, and to announce that the Kingdom of God had come near. But he didn’t send these disciples out alone; they went in pairs, to give each other encouragement and to hold each other accountable. Through their work and their witness, they made it known that the Kingdom of God has indeed come near.

I still find it amazing that it all started in earnest with just 70 or 72 people, this movement of trusting and following Jesus. Seventy or so people who were given the task of spreading peace, healing the sick, and announcing the Kingdom of God.

We are called to be partners in ministry together. Jesus sends us out into the world like sheep in the midst of wolves. He gives us authority to act in his name, encouraging one another, so that, when the Kingdom finally comes in its fullness, we can rejoice that our names are written in heaven, where we will feast at our Lord’s Table with all the company of saints. As we anticipate that joy, Christ invites you to this Altar Table here in our Church.

Come to this sacred table, not because you must, but because you may; come to testify not that you are righteous, but that you sincerely love our Lord Jesus Christ and desire to be his true disciples; come not because you are strong, but because you are weak; not because you have any claim on the grace of God, but because in your weakness and sin you stand in constant need of God’s mercy and help; come, not to express an opinion, but to seek God’s presence and pray for his Spirit. Come, for the Kingdom of God has come near to you, and Christ invites you to be part of it.

Fr Michael Morris will be celebrating his 40th Anniversary as a Priest this coming Saturday July 9th here at Holy Trinity Church. There will be a Concelebrated Mass at 11:00AM followed by a Reception at the San Clu afterwards. This is quite a milestone. Please come and help him celebrate.

Fr Paul will be off duty from Monday 11th July until Saturday 16th July. Weekday worship will be as normal.

We are pleased to host the Annual Leavers Service for our school in Church on July 22nd at 10:00AM. Please pray for all our children preparing for this next step of their education as they move to Secondary school in September. The Theme will be Life as a Pilgrimage.

You are all invited to a Church BBQ All five of the Parishes of the Society of St Wilfrid and St Hilda in Canterbury Diocese are getting to together on July 31st for a BBQ at St Michael’s Church in Harbledown, Canterbury at 3:00PM. Cost is only £2 for food and bring your own drinks – wine, beers or soft drinks. Lifts can be arranged, see Fr Paul for details. The event will conclude with Solemn Evensong and Benediction.
